Spotlight on meadowfoam
Let’s talk about moisture, baby. The colder months are rolling in and that means we’ve gotta spend a little extra love on our skin. Low humidity, harsh temperatures, and forced heat can leave our skin feeling irritated & parched. Enter the Essential Body Oil. We’ve whipped up a team of botanical conditioning oils including jojoba, argan, sunflower and meadowfoam to help hydrate your skin cells and minimize the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Each of these ingredients offers essential nutrients to our skin but while jojoba and argan are mainstays in organic skincare formulations, meadowfoam seed oil is a powerhouse you may have never heard of. So, what is it?
Meadowfoam is actually more of a modern discovery. Discovered in the 1950’s, agricultural researchers were on the hunt for unknown renewable vegetable oils. The beautiful white florals bloom in the wet, grassy regions of Northern California, Vancouver, and Oregon. The oil is extracted from the seeds of the flower via a process known as expeller pressed (squeezing the seeds under high pressure). What makes this oil so unique is its composition of 90-95% long-chain fatty acids (similar to those in jojoba oil) making it incredibly shelf stable and therefore, less wasteful. It lends its stability to other components in a formula, extending shelf life as a whole and allowing you to use the product at its most effective, for longer.
Meadowfoam seed oil is an odorless, lightweight emollient that mimics the texture of our skin’s natural sebum and helps repair our lipid barriers- what seals moisture into our skin. That barrier can be damaged or depleted by our diet, age, sun exposure, or harsh soaps and other chemicals. The similarity to our natural sebum also creates balance in our complexion. For those of us who struggle with excessive oily or dry skin, meadowfoam stabilizes. Ideal for mature and sensitive skin types, even those who suffer from issues like eczema or psoriasis, using this oil for a few days will condition and diminish problem areas. Acne prone? No worries - this oil is non-comodogenic, meaning it won’t clog pores. In fact, for some, this oil may help reduce acne by signaling to the body not to send excessive amounts to the surface, which can build up and create pimples.
There are more ways than one to use Essential Body Oil. As amazing as this oil is for your skin, so it is too for your hair. Meadowfoam and argan oils help restore shine to dull, dry hair as well as soothe irritated scalps. The combination of lightweight oils finds excellent use as a massage oil, not to mention the grounding, restorative scents of our essential oil blend deepen relaxation and calm. Suffering from severely chapped hands or lips? Mix with our Nips + Lips balm or your favorite lotion or lip balm to create a lasting and effective ultra-moisturizer. Just remember, if applying after your shower, do so before you towel off - the oil helps to lock in water to keep you moisturized until the next one (in part thanks to meadowfoam).
